This page is part of our public exclusion list — a transparency tool that shows which companies we screen out and why. It is not investment advice, and it is not an accusation. But it is subject to change as our understanding of the facts evolves.
JA Solar Technology is a major Chinese solar panel manufacturer whose supply chain is linked to Uyghur forced labor in the Xinjiang region. The Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region produces approximately 35% of the world's solar-grade polysilicon, and the four leading polysilicon manufacturers in the region are implicated in forced labor either through direct participation in government labor transfer programs or through raw material sourcing. The U.S. Department of Labor and the Sheffield Hallam University report "In Broad Daylight" identify at least 90 companies whose solar supply chains are affected by Uyghur forced labor. JA Solar is flagged by the AFSC Investigate database for sourcing polysilicon from Xinjiang suppliers. The U.S. Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act specifically targets polysilicon, authorizing Customs and Border Protection to detain solar imports suspected of Xinjiang-region production.
JA Solar manufactured over 16,000 JAP310 solar panels installed at the Meitarim solar farm, an illegal settlement industrial zone in the occupied West Bank occupying more than 24 acres of Palestinian land. The project, completed in 2015, was co-owned by Israeli companies Energix and the Southern Mount Hebron Development Company. Who Profits has documented Israel's use of occupied Palestinian land for solar energy generation while limiting Palestinians' access to electricity.

The Naughty List
A digest of changes to our exclusion list — new additions, removals, and the evidence behind them. We review the list continuously as new evidence surfaces.
Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.
