Environmental Damage
Since Jul 26, 2021

KEPCO operates one of the world's largest nuclear power generation fleets, with 24 reactors at four sites in South Korea. The company has been responsible for documented environmental contamination incidents linked to its nuclear operations. In 2013, KEPCO's subsidiary Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) was implicated in a scandal involving the supply of reactor parts with falsified safety certificates to multiple nuclear plants, raising significant concerns about operational integrity and the potential for environmental releases. Furthermore, the company's long-term management of radioactive waste has faced persistent criticism. South Korea has accumulated over 18,000 tons of spent nuclear fuel, with no permanent disposal solution established after decades of plant operation, creating an unresolved legacy of environmental risk.

Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.
