7270 Current as of March 2026

This page is part of our public exclusion list — a transparency tool that shows which companies we screen out and why. It is not investment advice, and it is not an accusation. But it is subject to change as our understanding of the facts evolves.

Emissions & Air Quality
Since Mar 12, 2026

Subaru Corporation manufactures and sells internal combustion engine vehicles as its core business, generating greenhouse gas emissions from both its manufacturing operations and the use phase of its products. The company’s primary environmental impact stems from the tailpipe emissions of its sold vehicles, which constitute the vast majority of its lifecycle carbon footprint.

Subaru’s climate transition pathway is assessed as misaligned with the Paris Agreement. The Transition Pathway Initiative (TPI) rates Subaru’s carbon performance as “High” risk, indicating its current and projected emissions trajectory is not compatible with limiting global warming to well below 2°C. While the company has announced a target to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, its near-term plans remain heavily reliant on internal combustion engine production. Its stated strategy emphasizes incremental efficiency improvements in gasoline and diesel engines alongside a gradual ramp-up of battery electric vehicle (BEV) offerings, a pace that lags behind sector peers who are more aggressively transitioning their product portfolios.

Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.
