Birkenstock historically manufactured its iconic footwear using animal-derived materials, including leather, suede, and shearling. The company’s core product lines have been dependent on these materials, with leather constituting a significant portion of its traditional sandal and shoe construction. While Birkenstock has introduced vegan collections using synthetic alternatives, the company continues to produce and market leather goods as a central component of its business. This commercial use of animal hides places its operations within the scope of animal exploitation for consumer products.
