BLMN Consumer Discretionary Current as of March 2026

This page is part of our public exclusion list — a transparency tool that shows which companies we screen out and why. It is not investment advice, and it is not an accusation. But it is subject to change as our understanding of the facts evolves.

Animal Exploitation
Since Oct 14, 2021

Bloomin’ Brands operates approximately 1,450 restaurants globally under the Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse brands. Its core business model is built on the sale of animal products, including beef, chicken, and seafood. The company’s primary protein sourcing is tied to industrial-scale animal agriculture.

In March 2021, the company was named in a global assessment by Cruelty Free Investors as one of the major food brands failing to make meaningful improvements in farm animal welfare. Public petitions have specifically targeted Bloomin’ Brands and its Outback Steakhouse chain, calling for an end to sourcing from egg producers that use cruel confinement systems for laying hens. While some restaurant groups made cage-free egg commitments during this period, the evidence indicates Bloomin’ Brands lagged behind peers in adopting and implementing clear, time-bound animal welfare policies for its supply chain.

Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.

This information is provided for educational and transparency purposes only and should not be relied upon as investment advice. Data is drawn from independent watchdogs, NGOs, government registries, and Ethical Capital's ongoing research — see Research Sources for the full list.
