This page is part of our public exclusion list — a transparency tool that shows which companies we screen out and why. It is not investment advice, and it is not an accusation. It is a statement of values.

Animal Exploitation
Since Oct 14, 2021

CAVA Group Inc. operates a chain of fast-casual Mediterranean restaurants. Its core menu and revenue are derived from animal products, including lamb, chicken, and beef, which are central to its protein offerings. The company’s own Supplier and Vendor Code of Conduct acknowledges animal welfare as a material concern, requiring partners to “prevent any cruelty to animals.”

The company’s name and leadership are directly associated with the Miami Seaquarium, a facility cited for severe and repeated animal welfare violations. In 2024, a USDA report documented “multiple and repeated” instances of animal welfare violations at the Seaquarium, which subsequently lost its accreditation from the American Humane certification program. Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, whose surname is incorporated into the company’s brand, was the public official with the authority to enforce the lease violations that ultimately led to the facility’s closure. This creates a direct, material association between the CAVA brand and a documented case of commercial animal exploitation.

Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.
