Conflict & War Zones
Since Jul 12, 2024

Salesforce provides the cloud infrastructure powering the Unified Immigration Portal, a system built by Deloitte for U.S. Customs and Border Protection that enables real-time information sharing across CBP, ICE, USCIS, Health and Human Services, and the Department of Justice to "track individuals as they move through the immigration journey." Between 2018 and July 2024, CBP spent $148.5 million on Salesforce products and services. In 2018 alone, Salesforce sold over $48 million in licenses to CBP, plus additional millions through third-party contracts for "use of Salesforce Platform as a Service throughout CBP." The UIP uses machine learning and AI tools, and as of 2021 tracked unaccompanied children from apprehension to shelter placement.

In June 2018, 650 Salesforce employees signed a letter demanding the company cancel its CBP contract, citing the agency's role in family separation at the border. CEO Marc Benioff declined a meeting with immigrant rights organization RAICES and rejected responsibility, claiming products were not "directly related" to separation practices. Separately, Salesforce secured a $5.6 billion, ten-year contract with the U.S. Army and the Department of War to provide data, cloud, and artificial intelligence infrastructure for military modernization. The company formed a dedicated national security unit called Missionforce in late 2025 to pursue defense business.

Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.

This information is provided for educational and transparency purposes only and should not be relied upon as investment advice. Data is drawn from independent watchdogs, NGOs, government registries, and Ethical Capital's ongoing research — see Research Sources for the full list.
