Environmental Damage
Since Feb 4, 2026

On February 4, 2026, the Texas AG filed a major civil lawsuit against Darling Ingredients for unlawfully emitting putrid odors and toxic chemicals (Hydrogen Sulfide) from its Bastrop, TX facility. In March 2026, a judge approved a temporary injunction following over 1,400 community complaints and evidence of unauthorized wastewater discharges into a local creek. Investigation found Darling constructed an illegal dam and discharged pollutants in concentrations 39,000 times higher than background levels.

Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.

This information is provided for educational and transparency purposes only and should not be relied upon as investment advice. Data is drawn from independent watchdogs, NGOs, government registries, and Ethical Capital's ongoing research — see Research Sources for the full list.
