In August 2012, undercover video released by Compassion Over Killing documented employees at a California slaughterhouse mistreating cows, including non-ambulatory “downer” animals. Following the release of this evidence, Jack in the Box was among the major fast-food chains, including McDonald’s and In-N-Out Burger, that swiftly suspended business with the supplier. The facility had a prior history of violations; in 2008, a pen manager at the same slaughterhouse faced five felony counts of animal cruelty.
