Animal Testing & Research
Since Jan 3, 2022

Kimberly-Clark Corporation manufactures and sells consumer health and hygiene products, including Kleenex tissues, Huggies diapers, Kotex feminine care products, and Scott paper goods. The company states it does not test its products or ingredients on animals unless required to meet regulatory requirements or when no alternative method exists. This policy indicates that animal testing remains a component of its product development and regulatory compliance processes for certain product lines.

The company has faced legal action regarding its product testing practices. In August 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice announced Kimberly-Clark agreed to pay up to $40 million to resolve a criminal charge related to fraudulent testing of its MicroCool surgical gowns. According to court filings, a company employee conducted this testing to avoid having to perform more rigorous, and potentially animal-based, testing protocols mandated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This incident demonstrates that animal testing requirements directly influence the company's compliance operations.

Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.
