Labcorp Holdings Inc. operates one of the world's largest contract research organizations (CROs), providing drug development and safety testing services that rely on animal experimentation. The company's core business involves conducting or commissioning animal tests on behalf of pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients as part of regulatory compliance and product development.
According to a 2023 report, Labcorp used 18,499 rabbits, 7,588 monkeys, and 4,284 dogs in experiments in 2021 alone. The company has been cited by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for violations of the Animal Welfare Act. In November 2023, Labcorp was fined $9,000 for five alleged violations at its Wisconsin facility, including failures that led to monkeys being deprived of water. A separate 2022 settlement involved a fine for violations resulting in animal deaths at a Bedford, Massachusetts site. Cruelty Free Investors lists Labcorp as a company engaged in animal testing.
