This page is part of our public exclusion list — a transparency tool that shows which companies we screen out and why. It is not investment advice, and it is not an accusation. But it is subject to change as our understanding of the facts evolves.
A.P. Moller – Maersk is named in United Nations reports for transporting goods from illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, thereby sustaining trade with these territories in violation of international law. The UN Special Rapporteur’s 2025 report identifies the company as integral to this ecosystem, allegedly shipping components, parts, weapons, and raw materials.
A 2025 Danwatch investigation alleged Maersk transported thousands of tonnes of weapons parts to Israel, raising questions about compliance with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. While Maersk states it upholds a strict policy against shipping weapons or ammunition to active conflict zones, its broader logistics operations continue to facilitate trade with and from occupied territories. The company is listed on the AFSC Investigate database for its activities related to the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
A.P. Møller – Mærsk has accumulated a significant record of environmental violations through its shipping and terminal operations. ViolationTracker documents $526,895 in penalties for nine air pollution violations and additional fines for water pollution offenses. These are not isolated incidents but part of a broader pattern of regulatory non-compliance, which includes a 2005 federal conviction for falsifying oil record books related to vessel pollution control, resulting in a $500,000 fine.
The company’s core business of global container shipping and port operations carries an inherent and severe risk of environmental damage. Large-scale oil spills from maritime accidents have documented, long-lasting impacts on marine ecosystems and coastal communities. Furthermore, APM Terminals, a key subsidiary, has been the subject of environmental impact studies concerning contamination prevention at its port facilities, indicating ongoing operational risks to local environments.

The Naughty List
A digest of changes to our exclusion list — new additions, removals, and the evidence behind them. We review the list continuously as new evidence surfaces.
Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.
