Match Group is screened out under 2 exclusion reasons spanning 1 issue category.
This page is part of our public exclusion list — a transparency tool that shows which companies we screen out and why. It is not investment advice, and it is not an accusation. It is a statement of values.
Match Group operates a suite of dating apps, including Tinder, Hinge, and OkCupid, which generate revenue through subscription fees and in-app purchases. The company’s business model has been the subject of multiple regulatory and legal actions alleging systematic consumer harm. In December 2025, Match Group agreed to pay $14 million to settle Federal Trade Commission charges that it engaged in deceptive advertising, made cancellation difficult, and employed misleading billing practices.
The company faces ongoing litigation alleging its apps are designed to be addictive. A class-action lawsuit filed in February 2024 accuses Match Group of violating consumer protection laws by using “predatory” design features to addict users and encourage compulsive spending. A separate February 2025 lawsuit alleges the company unlawfully misled app users through false advertising and deceptive trade practices. Beyond monetization, the company has faced scrutiny over user safety; a 2025 report alleged Match Group maintained a central database of users reported for rape and assault across its apps, raising questions about its handling of serious harms on its platforms.

The Naughty List
A digest of changes to our exclusion list — new additions, removals, and the evidence behind them. We review the list continuously as new evidence surfaces.
Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.
