Environmental Harm (1)
PAM Utilities Current as of April 2026

This page is part of our public exclusion list — a transparency tool that shows which companies we screen out and why. It is not investment advice, and it is not an accusation. But it is subject to change as our understanding of the facts evolves.

Environmental Damage
Since Apr 14, 2016

Pampa Energía operates the Pichachén and Pichi Picún Leufú hydroelectric complexes in Argentina's Neuquén province, located on lands historically claimed by the Mapuche indigenous community. In 2022, the Mapuche Confederation of Neuquén filed a lawsuit against Pampa Energía and its parent company, Pan American Energy, alleging that the company's operations have caused environmental destruction and human rights abuses, including the contamination of water sources and disruption of local ecosystems. The legal action specifically cites the companies' failure to conduct adequate prior consultations with the indigenous communities as required by international law.

Further reports from the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre indicate ongoing community conflicts related to the company's energy projects. These include allegations from the community of Pampa Clemesí in Peru, where local groups report being denied access to energy despite the proximity of Pampa Energía's operations, highlighting a pattern of community harm alongside environmental impacts. The combination of legal action by indigenous groups and documented community disputes points to systemic issues in the company's environmental and social governance.

Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.
