This page is part of our public exclusion list — a transparency tool that shows which companies we screen out and why. It is not investment advice, and it is not an accusation. But it is subject to change as our understanding of the facts evolves.
Reliance Industries — India's largest private company; operates world's largest oil refining complex at Jamnagar (1.4 million bpd) plus petrochemicals
Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has been assessed as having an obstructionist approach to climate policy. InfluenceMap reports that, aside from participation in a voluntary industry initiative, it has found no evidence of RIL engaging with climate-related regulations over a recent two-year period. This lack of substantive policy engagement aligns with a historical pattern; a 2015 analysis scored the company at the bottom for climate action, characterizing its behavior as obstructionist. The company's public climate disclosures, such as its Environment Policy, focus on general commitments and stakeholder reporting mechanisms but do not demonstrate active, material advocacy for the robust emissions regulation required to align with a 1.5°C pathway.

The Naughty List
A digest of changes to our exclusion list — new additions, removals, and the evidence behind them. We review the list continuously as new evidence surfaces.
Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.
