The United Nations Human Rights Council has listed RE/MAX in its database of companies with economic or trade dealings in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. AFSC Investigate documents that RE/MAX franchise brokerages are active in multiple illegal settlements, directly participating in the settlement real estate market.
This activity materially supports the operations of settlements considered illegal under international law. A 2016 shareholder proposal sought to compel the company to report on risks associated with these operations, indicating longstanding concerns. By enabling the transfer of property in occupied territories, RE/MAX’s business conduct is linked to the ongoing displacement and dispossession of Palestinian communities.
