RRC Energy Current as of March 2026

This page is part of our public exclusion list — a transparency tool that shows which companies we screen out and why. It is not investment advice, and it is not an accusation. But it is subject to change as our understanding of the facts evolves.

Upstream Fossil Fuels
Since Jul 28, 2021

Range Resources Corporation is an independent natural gas and natural gas liquids producer focused exclusively on exploration and production in the Appalachian Basin. The company's entire business model and revenue are derived from the upstream extraction of fossil fuels, primarily natural gas. Its operations are concentrated in the Marcellus Shale formation, one of the largest natural gas fields in the United States.

The company actively promotes the expansion of fossil fuel use, framing its product as "energy for the AI revolution" and a solution to growing global energy needs. Range Resources has no announced plans to phase out its core extraction business or transition its asset base away from fossil fuels. Its sustainability initiatives focus on operational efficiency and monitoring within its existing gas production framework, rather than a strategic shift to renewable energy.

Environmental Damage
Since Apr 14, 2016

Range Resources Corporation is an Appalachian Basin natural gas producer whose operations have been linked to documented environmental contamination. In 2010, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) fined Range Resources $4.15 million for contaminating private water wells in Washington County with methane and other drilling-related pollutants. The settlement required the company to provide permanent water supplies to affected residents. In 2014, the company reached a $750,000 settlement with three families in Lycoming County for water contamination allegedly caused by its operations. ViolationTracker documents over $5.7 million in environmental penalties assessed against Range Resources since 2010.

Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.
