SUZB3 Current as of March 2026

This page is part of our public exclusion list — a transparency tool that shows which companies we screen out and why. It is not investment advice, and it is not an accusation. But it is subject to change as our understanding of the facts evolves.

Climate Intransigence
Since Jul 28, 2021

Suzano has established a net-zero by 2050 ambition and publishes a Climate Transition Action Plan with targets for reducing its Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. However, the company’s primary climate narrative centers on its large-scale tree planting and the carbon sequestration of its commercial eucalyptus plantations. This framing presents a significant risk of greenwashing, as it uses the carbon absorbed by its monoculture tree farms to offset the emissions from its industrial pulp and paper operations, effectively labeling its core forestry business as a climate solution. This approach obscures the full lifecycle emissions and broader environmental impacts of its activities. While Suzano discloses climate targets, the reliance on sequestration from its own plantations to justify its transition pathway, without sufficient independent verification or acknowledgment of the limitations of such offsets, aligns with the definition of setting misleading climate targets.

Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.

This information is provided for educational and transparency purposes only and should not be relied upon as investment advice. Data is drawn from independent watchdogs, NGOs, government registries, and Ethical Capital's ongoing research — see Research Sources for the full list.
