The company has faced legal challenges over land rights in Sarawak, where it lost a case to native owners over customary land in 2016, yet attempted a second legal action the following year. Its subsidiary, Ta Ann Plantations Sdn Bhd, is cited in reports detailing the environmental damage from plantation development, which can render land unsuitable for other uses.
