TJX Companies, Inc. (The) is screened out under 2 exclusion reasons spanning 2 issue categories.

This page is part of our public exclusion list — a transparency tool that shows which companies we screen out and why. It is not investment advice, and it is not an accusation. It is a statement of values.

Animal Exploitation
Since Mar 12, 2026

The TJX Companies, Inc. sells apparel and home goods containing materials derived from animals, including leather, wool, and down. As a major off-price retailer with over $54 billion in annual revenue, its sourcing practices impact a significant volume of animal-derived products.

The company has faced shareholder proposals related to its animal welfare policies. In no-action letters to the SEC from 2020 and 2021, TJX stated it did not have a formal policy restricting animal-sourced products associated with cruelty and argued against the inclusion of such a shareholder proposal. While TJX has announced the removal of fur from its product lines, it continues to sell other animal-derived materials without a publicly available, comprehensive animal welfare policy governing their sourcing.

Preventable Deaths
Since Mar 8, 2026

Agreed to pay $13M civil penalty for knowingly selling recalled products, including inclined infant sleepers linked to infant deaths.

Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.

This information is provided for educational and transparency purposes only and should not be relied upon as investment advice. Data is drawn from independent watchdogs, NGOs, government registries, and Ethical Capital's ongoing research — see Research Sources for the full list.
