This page is part of our public exclusion list — a transparency tool that shows which companies we screen out and why. It is not investment advice, and it is not an accusation. But it is subject to change as our understanding of the facts evolves.

Sturm, Ruger & Company manufactures firearms that are documented as being used by Israeli security forces in occupied territories. A 2018 report identified that a Ruger sniper rifle was used by an Israeli soldier in the killing of a Palestinian nurse, Razan al-Najjar, in Gaza. In December 2020, The Intercept reported on the specific use of a .22 caliber Ruger rifle in the shooting of a 15-year-old Palestinian boy in the occupied West Bank.

The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) includes Sturm, Ruger on its Investigate platform's divestment shortlist for companies involved in Israel's settlement enterprise. AFSC cites the company's involvement in "committing human rights violations in the occupied Palestinian and Syrian territories." While the company does not publicly disclose end-user sales data, documented incidents link its products to specific acts of violence against civilians in occupied areas.

For-Profit Prisons
Since Jul 12, 2024

Sturm, Ruger & Company is a firearms manufacturer excluded under the private prisons category. The provided evidence does not substantiate a direct business link to for-profit prisons, immigration detention, or correctional services. Searches of AFSC Investigate and other sources returned no records of contracts with prison operators like CoreCivic or GEO Group, revenue from prison labor, or provision of correctional services. The company's core business is the design and manufacture of firearms for civilian and law enforcement markets. This exclusion record appears to be a misclassification and should be reviewed for removal.

Companies appear on our exclusion list based on our investment judgment — not because they've done anything illegal. This is a difference of values and opinion, not an accusation of wrongdoing. Exclusion does not constitute a recommendation against investing in any company, and absence from the list does not constitute a recommendation to invest.
